Information
Day 1
After breakfast, we will meet with a guide at the Central Park, where we will see the Grand Theatre and the oldest hotels on the island and visit the interior of the Capitol – a monumental building created as the seat of the Cuban parliament. Then we will walk through Paseo del Prado to the former Presidential Palace, which now houses the Museum of the Revolution (from the outside) and sit down for a coffee in one of the many cafes in the vicinity of Angel Hill. From here, we will walk along Port Avenue with a view of the Havana fortifications to the Plaza de Armas – the place where Havana was founded, with the oldest fortress in the city and the Governor’s Palace. Near the Cathedral Square, we will have lunch at a local restaurant, and after it we will head towards the Obispo street and the Old Square with its colonial architecture and a small brewery. Then there will be a salsa lesson with Cuban partners near St. Francisco’s Square and a water tram ride across the Bay of Havana to the statue of Christ, from where there is a magnificent panorama of the city. We will see memorabilia related to the so-called „nuclear crisis” and have dinner at a nearby restaurant. In the evening, we will participate in the cannon firing ceremony from the fortress of San Carlos de la Cabaña – cañonazo – which marked the moment of closing the city gates. Return to the place of accommodation for the night.
Day 2
After breakfast, we meet with a guide and take a coco-taxi for photos at Callejón de Hammel – a colourful street with numerous murals inspired by Afro-Cuban culture and religion. Then we’ll visit a cigar factory, followed by a ride in an American convertible. The first stop will be the legendary Hotel Nacional, visited by celebrities, where we will have a drink. From here we will go to the Malecón – a seaside boulevard that is the showcase of Havana and a meeting place for its inhabitants, which will lead us to the exclusive Miramar district with its Fifth Avenue full of embassies. Then we will glide through El Bosque (Havana Forest), the area of the historic Christopher Columbus Cemetery and through the Revolution Square for a small rum tasting with an explanation of the rum production process. In the afternoon we will have a lunch at a local restaurant and buy souvenirs at the Mercado de San José. Return to the place of accommodation.
