If you have already considered a trip to Cuba, then you surely know that in addition to its culture, music and architecture, this island can boast of wonderful beaches. In this article, I present to you the most beautiful Cuban beaches stunning with the magic of blue. Which one would you choose??
1. One of the most famous holiday resorts is undoubtedly VARADERO, located on the Atlantic Ocean about 140 km east of Havana. Wonderful sandy beaches occupy the entire 20-kilometer northern coast of the Hicacos Peninsula. It is difficult to judge which of them is the best – they all have fine white sand and crystal clear water, but if you are looking for something unusual – it is worth going outside the hotel zone and visiting Playa Coral. You can easily reach the coral barrier from the shore and admire over 30 species of coral, multi-colored fish and exotic mollusks while snorkeling. In addition to all this, there is the possibility of practicing water sports and a rich nightlife.
2. Also on the Atlantic Ocean, but in the province of Holguín, is the beautiful PLAYA GUARDALAVACA. The fine white sand combined with the clear warm water and the nearby coral reef make this place excellent for diving and water sports (windsurfing, kayaking, sailing, etc.). The beach itself is about 1,7 km long and is surrounded on the south by forests and hills covered with lush vegetation. In the XVI and XVII centuries, this place was attacked by pirates and corsairs, which is why the slogan often appeared among the inhabitants of this area was “Guardalavaca” (hide / protect your cow).
3. The northern coast of Cuba also abounds in numerous paradise islands, among which Cayo Coco in the province of Ciego de Ávila deserves attention. It is one of the islands of the King’s Gardens archipelago (Jardines del Rey), which is reached by a 17-kilometer pedraplen – a road built on a causeway over the ocean, providing stunning views. White sand, shallow turquoise waters, great hotels and beautiful landscapes can be found at one of the most beautiful beaches on this island – PLAYA LARGA.
4. In the same archipelago lies Cayo Guillermo. The beautiful nature (wide sand dunes surrounded by palm trees and pink flamingos) and the crystal clear water at the sandy PLAYA EL PILAR are unmatched. It is said that the beach was discovered and made famous by Ernest Hemingway himself.
5. Wonderful beaches are also available on CAYO SANTA MARÍA. This time, to enjoy their fine, flour-like, white sand, you have to drive through a 50-kilometer pedraplen. Turquoise, calm ocean waters and good-class hotels provide complete relaxation. On the way to the island, it is worth stopping at the dolphinarium.
6. Almost 900 km from Havana, hidden in the Bay of Nipe, lies the islet of CAYO SAETÍA. An ideal place for those who want to relax without the crowds of beachgoers around, enjoying the lush vegetation, coral reefs and colorful fishes. In addition to the possibility of practicing water sports, the islet also offers an unusual attraction – a camera safari, which will allow you to look at the antelopes, zebras, giraffes and exotic birds living on the island.
7. Further east, near Baracoa, in the Cuchillas de Toa Biosphere Reserve, is PLAYA MAGUANA. A strip of fine sand, about a kilometer long, is surrounded by palm trees and sea grapes (uva caleta). Families living nearby will happily prepare a fresh seafood lunch or cocktails in coconuts on the beach!
8. The province of Pinar del Río also has several beautiful beaches, among which CAYO LEVISA deserves attention. An islet accessible only by ferry, far from the big tourist resorts. On 3 kilometers of beaches we will find as many as 23 diving sites, including coral reefs, where 500 species of fish live, 200 species of sponges, numerous crustaceans, sea stars and many others.
9. Cuba is surrounded by the Caribbean Sea from the south. 12 km from Trinidad lies another beautiful beach – PLAYA ANCÓN. Its great advantage is easy access, without having to stay in one of the hotels. All you have to do is rent a room in a chosen casa particular of colonial Trinidad and commute to the beach every day by bus, taxi or bike. And the sunsets seen from here are simply amazing.
10. In the Caribbean Sea lies another untouched island – CAYO LARGO DEL SUR. On its paradisiacal beaches, which stretch for 24 kilometers, we will find many secluded places suitable for nudists and hiding iguanas, starfish and sea turtles. The most visited are Playa Paraíso and Playa Sirena.
