Artistic Havana

This excursion is led by a contemporary art specialist guide who studied Cultural Heritage Management at the University of Havana and currently has his own gallery in Habana Vieja. No one else is as at home in the artistic world of Havana as he is. The best introduction to the world of Cuban artists is a visit to the National Museum of Fine Arts, in the section dedicated to Cuban art. So this is the perfect place to start this tour. The museum’s permanent exhibition includes around 940 paintings, sculptures, drawings, engravings and installations from the 17th to the 21st century. They have been divided into 4 groups: colonial art, turn of the century, modern art and contemporary art. The further course of the visit is decided by our guide, an art curator, who has up-to-date information on exhibitions and expositions in the city, as well as contacts to private galleries and many famous Cuban artists (such as José Ángel Nazabal, Henry Crespo, Héctor Trujillo and Lancelos Alonso) who will welcome you in their homes, studios and workshops. Each of them will tell you about the methods and techniques they use and the sources of inspiration. This is an extraordinary opportunity not only to admire Cuban paintings, ceramics, street art, sculptures and design, but also to buy them! Since most of the places are located in the Vedado and Centro districts, transportation is provided in an American classic car, and the tour itself ends in Old Havana.
